This WWII era Life Jacket was Worn by one of the Boatswain's on board the Clark on the very evening that the ship was torpedoed by a German U-Boat.
The Life Vest was marked and inspected by the Bereau of Marine Inspection Jan. 21 1942. (just 2 months before the ship was sunk)
This Life Jacket has Been Signed by atleast 17 members of the crew onboard during the attack. Not only did they sign their names but also their addresses so I can only speculate that this could have been done after the men had reached land and had time to reflect on the events. It does look as though 90% of the signatures were done with the same pen or pencil.
On the inside of the vest in hard to read blue marker I can make out : Boatswain, though I do not know if this was Harold Rew's Jacket or if it belonged to an assistant boatswain.
