One Step At A Time. . .

Back in the Civil War era slaves did not know how to read or right. In some places, it was even considered illegal. The same applied for African Americans. in some cases, slave owners would sometimes teach them, or they find out through another way secretly. Slaves wanted to read and write because it was seemed to be an advancement in their time and was more professional. Many slaves wanted to read the bible, so they wanted to learn how. If they got caught they were punished or worse. Many did not approve to the literacy at that time.

Click.Kaboom!

I believe this picture is important because this was a very historic moment in time. This is the before and after picture of the Nagasaki bombing. It shows what devastation the atomic bomb has. I really don't think the viewer should take anything away from it. It shows how much power we have at the tips of our fingers. In just a matter of minutes, miles of land can be destroyed.

Carving History

Leaving out pieces of history isn't wrong, but its not right. Just because something bad happened in history and included your country, doesn't mean you can make it disappear. Just because a country made a mistake or lost a war isn't a problem to leave it out. There will always be people there who 1st hand witness the incident and/or hear about it. As a country, we will not look down on you for a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes, and its okay. Just think of it as a life lesson;jump back up on your feet and keep moving. No matter how bad it makes you look, you shouldn't just rewrite history like it never happened.

History! A Lie!?

OK, here's a quote by Voltaire; "History is the lie commonly agreed upon." This basically means there are always two sides of the story. Depending on who you hear it from you will never get the same answers. For instance; if you ask the Germans about WWI and WWII they will probably say that they were trying to help the poor and some ridiculous reasons. (Nazi's) But from the U.S. view point, there were cruel, inhumane acts happening. Two people will never agree on the same instance.

Teaching The Young

I don't believe we should change the way we teach younger kids. Even though we exaggerate the truth very far, think of what would happen if we told them the truth. They would ask a million questions and probably not even care. I find it a way to teach kids/youths our history. It may not be entirely true but at least they remember it. For instance, the childish songs teachers teach them make them remember historic dates and places. Maybe its not all about the small little details. But its a personal opinion.

History Matters!

If you believe history has no purpose and it dosent matter, then think again! History is what makes us able to do what we do everyday. Think back. . .The Declaration of Independence formed the United States as we know it. If people didnt do what they have done then nothing would be possible for instance; Martin Luther King Jr. made it possible for different colored people to be together. Rosa Parks made a revolt along with many other "sit downs". If these bravehearted people didnt do what they've done, then we might still be living in a diverse separated community. Whether you think about it or not, you may be able to make a change and change something else that isnt right either. History does matter!

Box of Crayons

I believe stereotypes are so widely know because "Ever since the dawn of time" there has been racism. Even in today's society there is still racism. It's not all about racism though. Picture an Indian; what do you imagine? tan person? feather hat? and like a drape right? that's a stereotype, and also a profile. When you stereo type people its not right. Its like saying a(n) African American shouldn't live in a rich neighborhood. Why? Because during some periods of time, African Americans were poor and lived in "slums",and "hoods". So most people stereotype everyday and do not even realize it. So give things a second thought before you say "Wow, he/she shouldn't be living in this neighborhood."
